Kainga ora case study: Radius House

The Radius House proposes an alternative social housing typology that responds to growing and extended whānau, allowing a space that adapts to the user and functional needs within. The celebration of an interconnected state is reflected in the materiality and structural decisions, where the use of deep rammed earth walls further strengthens the connection between self and site. The construction of the form encourages communal interaction and engagement through the ramming of earth into kitset timber formworks, which can be reused for creating additional spaces—further enhancing a sense of involvement and connection.
